Acadeum College Consortium Courses

Cornell’s partnership with Acadeum allows students to take pre-approved online courses from other accredited institutions that count as Cornell credit.  These consortial courses have been pre-approved by Cornell College for students to request registration. All Acadeum courses are offered online and are asynchronous.

Why take an Acadeum course?

You may find Acadeum courses useful for:

  • Fulfilling degree requirements when a needed course is not offered in the current term.
  • Academic recovery for students needing to retake a course, make up missing course credits, or improve their GPA.
  • Taking prerequisites for an upcoming Cornell course

Financial Information for Acadeum Courses

Billing

All costs and bills will be processed by Cornell, not the teaching institution. You will be billed through your Cornell student account.

Summer courses through Acadeum

Summer courses taken through Acadeum cost $1,200 for a 3 credit hour course (equal to 0.75 Cornell credits, which is enough to meet degree requirements) and $1,600 for a 4 credit hour course (equal to 1 Cornell credit).

Upon approval to take the course, the course fee will be added to your student account. Payment of the course fee is due by the first day of the class.

Fall and Spring semester courses through Acadeum

During the Fall or Spring semester, Acadeum courses will be included in the total number of credits taken that semester and therefore included when determining part-time or full-time enrollment for tuition billing.

Students who exceed full-time enrollment (i.e. overload) due to the addition of an Acadeum course(s), i.e. semester total above 4.5 credits, will be charged $1600 per Cornell credit for a 4 credit Acadeum course (and $1200 for a 3 credit Acadeum course) as outlined in the Cornell College tuition and fee schedule.

Relevant academic policies

  • Students who are registered for 4 credits during the Fall or Spring semester are permitted to take one Acadeum Consortium course per semester as an overload if they have junior or senior standing and a GPA of at least 2.5.
  • A maximum of two Acadeum Consortium courses taken during the Fall or Spring semester may count toward the total 31 credits for graduation. Students are not permitted to take two Acadeum Consortium courses in the same semester.
  • Acadeum courses are not considered transfer courses. They are transcripted as Cornell College courses and counted in the “attempted” and “earned” credit categories for Satisfactory Academic Progress calculations. The grade earned will be transcripted and calculated in the term and cumulative GPA.
  • Full policy details are listed in the Cornell Course Catalog

How it works

Your account is automatically set up so you can log in with your Cornell Email and Password through single sign-on.

  • Search approved course(s)

    • If you are looking for a specific Cornell course, switch the “Search by” to search “Your School Courses”
    • Or search by “All Course substitutes” which will list all courses that have been pre-approved by Cornell. Information on how the course will show on your registration and transcript is visible in the course details
    • AIf you don't see a particular topic or subject area, it might be a part of Acadeum, it just isn't pre-approved for student viewing yet. Click the "Don't see a course you're looking for? Request a Course" button at the bottom of the page.
  • Selection approval: after you Select Section and then Request Registration, the Cornell Registrar's office and the host institution will verify you can take the course, then you will be registered for the course. There is no need to apply separately to the teaching institution. Acadeum and Cornell College will process your enrollment into the course at the other college/university.
  • Taking your course(s): you will complete your course online through the teaching institution. This means that the course will not have a Cornell Moodle page. Acadeum and the teaching institution will provide you with instructions for accessing the course.
  • Add/drop dates: the add/drop dates for your Acadeum course(s) are set by the teaching institution, not Cornell. Students should review the communication closely for any information on drop deadlines and pay close attention to all communications from the teaching institution. Students should engage with their course in the first week of the class.
  • Cornell credits earned: remember, 1 Cornell credit is equal to 4 semester hours. So a 3 semester hour course will transfer in as 0.75 Cornell credits (which does meet the minimum requirement to fulfill a general education requirement or a major/minor requirement).
  • You are responsible for managing your course(s): monitor your Cornell email daily for instructions from the host institution on accessing your course.

Submissions for Acadeum Constortium courses are approved on a student by student basis. If you have any questions about your course selection or the status of your registration, please contact the Registrar's Office at registrar@cornellcollege.edu or 319.895.4372.
