Student Records Privacy Options (FERPA)

Cornell College, in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 as amended (FERPA), protects the confidentiality of student records and the individual student’s right to privacy. Failure to follow FERPA could result in a lawsuit, loss of federal funding, conviction of a misdemeanor under the Public Information Act, or dismissal from college employment.

A student’s FERPA release status is the reference point for any information that we are able to share about that student with anyone outside the student and authorized Cornell Staff to

  • Verify contact information or update release permissions and relationships 
  • Share student grades, billing information, etc. securely with other. 
  • Authorize release of records to a parent/spouse/guardian, or to revoke such release.
