Intercultural Life
Cornell attracts students from across the United States and from more than 20 nations. As a student here, you’ll meet people who will challenge your worldview, expand your perspective, and open your eyes to new ways of living and learning. At Cornell, we celebrate our rich intercultural community and facilitate the open exchange of ideas on subjects of diversity, social justice, oppression, and privilege. Here are just a few of the ways in which we foster a spirit of inclusiveness and respect:
- Dynamic programs such as the Diversity Conference, Martin Luther King Dream Speeches, and Eyes of the World Culture Show promote understanding and awareness by educating the community about different cultures.
- Challenging lectures spark discussion on topics such as the co-optation of the N-word, the evolution of hip-hop, and Native American storytelling.
- Multicultural student organizations , such as Allilance and Cornell College Hillel, provide support and empowerment. Meanwhile, the P.A.L.S program offers mentorship, and the Black Awareness Cultural Organization has a house for socializing and discussion.
- Our Office of Intercultural Life offers a variety of services and programs to advocate on behalf of international students and underrepresented groups, and to help all Cornell students address academic, cultural, religious or other concerns.
