Major & Minor Requirements

Major Requirements for Women's Studies

A minimum of nine course credits, which include:

  • Introduction to Women's Studies (171)
  • Feminist Theories (271)
  • A 300-level alternative perspective course chosen from an approved list
  • Seminar in Women's Studies (411)
  • Women's Studies Project (487)
  • Four course credits selected from additional women's studies courses or from the list of departmental courses approved for women's studies credit

Recommended Course Sequence

The vast majority of our courses have only ENG 111 as a prerequisite.  Students should note, though, that many courses are offered in alternate years or every third year and plan accordingly.

Minor Requirements

  • Feminist Theories (271)
  • One advanced topics course at the 300 level
  • Two additional courses selected from the women's studies topics courses or other departmental courses approved for women's studies credit.  These two additional courses may not be counted toward a major in another department or program.
