What does Cornell look for when evaluating applications?
We look for evidence of academic ability and preparedness, personal character, and meaningful extracurricular involvement. Each year, our goal is to assemble a dynamic and diverse incoming class while paying attention to the merits of each individual applicant.
Are there specific criteria that applicants must meet, like minimum ACT or SAT scores?
No. We take a holistic approach to assessing which applicants are the best “fit” academically and personally with the Cornell College community; test scores and grades are considered in conjunction with extracurricular activities and other criteria, not in isolation.
When will I find out if I’ve been accepted?
That depends on when you apply. If you submit by December 1 (Early Action), you’ll hear from us by February 15. For applications submitted on February 1 (Regular Decision), acceptance letters are sent before April 1. More about application schedules for first-year students and for transfer students.
What is the difference between Early Action (EA) and Regular Decision (RD)?
Early Action allows students to submit their application early and receive their admission notification letter early (by February 15).
When do I have to make my college choice?
All colleges should notify admitted applicants that they have until May 1, the national candidate reply date, to make their college decision.
