The civic engagement minor complements any course of study and is designed to prepare you to be a thoughtful and informed citizen and servant-leader. Your interdisciplinary courses will make you a more informed, deliberative, and articulate leader in whatever career you pursue.

How to declare a civic engagement minor?

If you already know you want to declare a civic engagement minor, complete the following:

  1. Complete the declaration form to declare your minor

  2. Meet with Samantha Hebel to have her sign your declaration form

  3. Meet with your primary advisor to obtain their signature on the declaration form

  4. Submit the declaration form to the Registrar

Requirements for civic engagement minor

A minimum of six course credits including:

  • Three core courses

  • One course in critical thinking/research methods

  • One course concerned with efforts to address societal issues

  • One course in applied civic engagement

  • A minimum of 25 non-credit hours of civic engagement involvement over the course of at least two semesters including volunteering, activism, and other civic engagement opportunities

  • Once you’ve completed all your coursework and you’ve completed 25 non-credit hours of civic engagement you are required to submit a reflective essay assessing these experiences
