Flex Dollars and Declining Card Balance

Flex Dollars (flex)

Flex dollars are a non-refundable balance included with the 14 Meal Plan + $200 Flex. They roll over from fall to spring, but expire if a student switches to the 20 Meal Plan (which has no flex) between semesters, or when the school year ends.

Budgeting Tip: students should aim to spend under $50 per Block. Overspending is not prohibited but may result in charges if the student:

  • Switches to a non-flex plan
  • Graduates early
  • Otherwise changes plans mid-semester
Example: A student who uses all $200 by the end of Block 2 but graduates early will be billed $100 for flex intended for Blocks 3 and 4.

Declining Card Balance (DCB)

DCB is a refillable balance available to students, faculty, and staff. It offers a 10% discount on purchases and does not expire while affiliated with the college.

To activate DCB, contact Bon Appetite at 319-895-4499. Funds can be added anytime via the Bon Appetite cardholder management website.

Both can be used:

  1. At Zamora's Market
  2. In the Hilltop Cafe during the Fall and Spring Break when the meal plan is not active
  3. To swipe a guest in at the dining hall

Users who register their meal plan account with the Bon Appetite cardholder management website can check their balances any time.
