2006-2007 Season
Peach Blood
a new play by Holli Gipson
directed by Mark Hunter
Nancy is anything but an ordinary young woman. She is socially inept and emotionally stunted. At the age of 29, she lives with dysfunctional parents who obsess about ancient situation comedies and the sex life of Marilyn Monroe. She works for a struggling gay artist whose talent is almost as pronounced as his comic insecurity. She wanders beneath the fragrant and golden branches of a mysteriously indestructible peach tree where she meets regularly with her sister who has been missing for years. And for some reason, a celebrated architect has an erotic fixation about her. Alternately funny and chilling, and always painfully human, Peach Blood is a theatrically compelling account of a young woman’s struggle to chart a future independent of a haunted past. It is also the first full length play by a Cornell student who will likely be making playwriting waves in years to come. We are delighted to celebrate this signal achievement by one of our own.
