Godspell - 2000 A.D.
Composer: Stephen Schwartz
Director: Jonathan Thull

Jesus and the disciples meet country, jazz, and punk music in the Cornell Lyric Theatre production of Godspell -- 2000 A.D.

Godspell, Stephen Schwartz’s hit musical that opened in 1971, is based on the Gospel of St. Matthew. The text weaves parables and lessons into a contemporary narrative covering universal themes of love, peace, acceptance and forgiveness, social injustice, the corruption of power, and physical and spiritual hunger. Cornell’s version trades the traditional clown makeup for an eclectic juxtaposition of musical genres including classical, country, jazz, hip-hop, and punk. Set in an urban park, the multimedia production features a rock band, projections, and nearly 30 performers - three times larger than the typical Godspell cast
