Kaia Monroe

Having just moved to Iowa from New York City, Kaia is in her second year of a two-year appointment. Last year at Cornell, she directed Sweeney Todd and will be at the helm of three one-act operas this winter. Kaia is an actor/musician/dancer with many regional theatre credits including the Geva Theatre Center, Missouri Rep, The Kennedy Center, American Stage Festival, Fulton Opera House, Weston Playhouse, and national tours of Swingtime Canteen and Joseph. She is also a member of the theatre faculty at the Perry-Mansfield Performing Arts School in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.

As a teacher, Kaia’s main areas of specialization are movement, voice, and musical theatre. She is a certified yoga instructor and has done post-graduate training at the Dell Arte School of Physical Theatre; she continues to study voice with Elly Stone, with whom she is editing a manuscript on the bel canto method; and her singing can be heard on the recently released CD Sacred Harp.
