Outside Scholarship Opportunities
The following are scholarship opportunities that we have received in our office for the 2009-2010 academic year. Some of them have provided a web site that you can go to to download an application or get additional information. In keeping with its long-standing tradition of helping women succeed, the Talbots Charitable Foundation is proud to present the 2010 Talbots Scholarship Foundation and the inaugural Nancy Talbot Scholarship Award for perseverance and ingenuity, which is presented in memory of the founder of Talbots. This program empowers women to enrich themselves through learning and achieve a college education later in life.
Completely re-imagined, the Talbots Scholarship Foundation will award $180,000 in college scholarships for the 2010 academic year, including up to 10 $15,000 scholarships and one $30,000 scholarship to an extraordinary finalist demonstrating courage, conviction and an insatiable entrepreneurial spirit.
Applications are available online at https://www.scholarshipamerica.org/talbotswomen starting Monday, October 5, 2009. The deadline for applications is Saturday, January 2, 2010. Only the first 5,000 eligible applications received will be processed.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants to the 2010 Talbots Scholarship Foundation must:
- Be women currently residing in the United States or Canada;
- Be women who have earned a high school diploma or their GED on or before September 2000;
- Be enrolled or planning to enroll in a full- or part-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited 2- or 4- year college, university, or vocational-technical school;
- Be attending the full 2010-11 academic year and receiving a degree no earlier than May 2011; and
- Have at least two semesters (24 credit hours or more) remaining to complete an undergraduate degree as of the beginning of the 2010 fall academic term.
Linn County Medical Society Scholarship
The Linn County Medical Society Scholarship Fund Committee is now accepting applications for the 2010-2011 academic year.
Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a pre-medical undergraduate degree program, or enrolled in an accredited medical school, graduate or professional school pursuing a postgraduate degree in medicine or another health care related field.
Please contact the Financial Assistance office to request an application, or stop by and pick an application up.
Application deadline is March 5, 2010.
U.S. Bank Scholarships
U.S. Bank will award forty $1,000 scholarships through a random drawing process. Undergraduate students attending an eligibl four-year college or university participating in the U.S. Bank No Fee Education Loan Program are eligible to apply. Scholarship online applications will be accepted from October, 2009 through March 2010.
Pride Foundation/GSBA Scholarships
Pride Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2010-11 school year. We anticipate awarding $300,000 in scholarships during this cycle. Along with our scholarship partner, the Greater Seattle Business Association, we offer 50 different scholarships, but have only one application to complete.
New this year is our online application. Gone are the days of paper, as now students can create an account at PrideFoundationScholar.org and complete their application completely online. This makes the application more accessible and also decreases our administrative costs. Remember, applications (including letters of recommendation) are due on January 31, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. PST. Don’t wait… start today!
Des Moines Women's Club
The Memorial Scholarship Committee of the Des Moines Women's Club is pleased to announce the Memorial Scholarships to be awarded to selected applicants in the Spring of 2010.
The application and information regarding the $1,000 scholarships from the Dell and Schwartz funds may be obtained online at http://www.desmoineswomensclub.org/scholarships.html. Applicants must be a legal resident from Polk County or one of the bordering counties: Boone, Dallas, Jasper, Madsion, Marion, Story, or Warren.
The application deadline is January 29, 2010.
Glenn Miller Birthplace Society
Clarinda's Glenn Miller Birthplace Society is offering scholarships of $4,500, $2,000 & $1,000 to instrumentalists. The vocal scholarships will also be $4,500, $2,000 & $1,000. These scholarships may be used for education-related expenses.
Scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniros or first year college students who intend to make music a central part of their future life.
Application deadline is March 15, 2010. Finalists are required to compete in Clarinda on June 10, 2010.
