Outside Scholarship Opportunities

The following are scholarship opportunities that we have received in our office for the 2011-2012 academic year. Some of them have provided a web site that you can go to to download an application or get additional information. BigSun Scholarship

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.

Deadline        -  June 22, 2012   

Amount of Award  -        $500.00

The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community..

U.S. Bank Scholarship Program

The U.S. Bank Scholarship Program is available to high school seniors (graduating in the 2011-2012 school year) and college undergraduates. Winners will be selected at random.

Applications will be  accepted through March 31, 2012.

Apply online - quickly and easily.  The U.S. Bank Scholarship Program is exclusively for Web visitors and the online application is the only way to apply.

In order to be eligible for the U.S. Bank Scholarship Program, a student must be:
  • A high school senior planning to enroll or a current college freshmen, sophomore or junior at an eligible four-year college or university participating in the U.S. Bank Student Loan Program.
  • Enrolled by September 2012.
  • A United States citizen or permanent resident alien.

Upon selection, U.S. Bank will verify winner submissions and notify each scholarship recipient in writing by mid April 2012.


Leaders in Volunteerism Scholarship

The leaders in volunteerism scholarship of $500.00 is awarded annually to a graduating high school senior or college student who is actively involved in volunteerism.

The eligibility requirements are:

1.  Must either be a graduating senior at either Jefferson, Kennedy, Washington, Metro, Xavier, Linn-Mar, Marion, or Prairie High School, or be currently enrolled at Kirkwood Community College, Coe, Cornell, Mount Mercy University or volunteer at a current Leaders in Volunteerism member's organization.

2.  Must be a student in good standing.

3.  Must complete the application form.

4.  Must write a 400-500 word essay entitled "The impact of My Volunteer Work on My Life and Community."

5.  Must submit two letters of reference.  Letters from family members will not be accepted.  One of the reference letters must be from someone who has supervised the applicant directly in a non-school-related volunteer activity.  Please do not send more than two reference letters.

6.  Must be willing, if asked, to attend an interview session with the LIV selection committee.

7.  Must be willing to attend a LIV meeting to accept award if chosen.

8.  NOTE:  DO NOT send transcripts, more than 2 reference letters, or additional materials.
