Cornell College Commemorative Trees

Cornell College Commemorative Trees

A variety of commemorative plantings help beautify Cornell's historic campus. They serve as living memorials for classmates, friends, or family, or as recognition of a milestone reunion, beloved faculty member, or special celebration. In order to preserve the park-like beauty of our campus, we place a small numbered marker near the trees. That number corresponds to the trees on the interactive map below, with each purple shield designating a commemorative tree. Click on a shield, or the name of the designee(s) listed below the tree map, to learn more about the tree and its designee, view tree images, and find exact tree locations around campus.

This page serves as a permanent record and tribute to those honored. Great care was taken to accurately identify and locate each honorific or memorial tree on campus. If you feel an error has been made, or if you are interested in naming a commemorative tree, please contact the Stewardship Office at 319-895-4258 or email stewardship@cornellcollege.edu.

In addition to the commemorative trees mentioned above, since 2008, many hardwood trees and shrubs on Cornell's campus have been generously funded by annual gifts from Tom ('67) and Betsy Beers ('69) Shillinglaw through annual gifts and the establishment of the Tom and Betsy Shillinglaw Endowed Tree Fund in 2019 in order to perpetuate the planting of trees and their subsequent care on Cornell's beautiful park-like campus.
