Special Interest Programs & Options
Living & Learning Program
The Living & Learning Program provides students
with an opportunity to link service, academic or career interests to their
living environment. The goal is for students gain a more holistic education
through practicing experiential learning and connecting issues and activities
between the classroom, residence hall and real world; greater depth and
breadth to their service interests; increased understanding of issues
that are important to their peers; refined leadership skills such as goal-setting
, working effectively as a team and project management; and the intrinsic
rewards of serving others, being involved in the community and making
a positive impact.
The Living & Learning Program requires a separate
application and screening process. Living & learning communities must
reapply each year. Each community determines its own membership. The Living
& Learning Program is contingent upon optimizing space; therefore,
the Residence Life Office reserves the right to fill the space in a living
& learning area via the housing process if the community cannot maintain
its membership to fill spaces allocated in the halls.
Harlan House
Harlan House is an on-campus living area that is
typically assigned during the living & learning application process.
Apartment Areas
Tenth Avenue Apartments, New Hall
and Clock Tower are on-campus living areas that are assigned during room
selection. Upper-class students in good standing with the college are permitted
to draw into these living areas. ResNet is available in Tenth Avenue Apartments, New Hall and Clock Tower.
First Year Halls and Floors
First year halls and floors provide unique experiences
to assist new students in getting to know others in their class while
getting involved in academic and out-of-class activity. First year halls
and floors are generally substance free.
Substance Free Areas
A substance free area is defined as a floor or building
in which residents and visitors, regardless of their age, abstain from
the use of alcohol. Exposing
others in the area to secondary effects of such usage (i.e. noise, vandalism
and messes resulting from the use of a substance) is also prohibited.
Although violations of the College's alcohol policy are not allowed anywhere
on campus and result in campus disciplinary action, a student in a substance-free
area may incur additional consequences such as a $25.00 fine, and, in
all likelihood, removal from the area. These areas are open to all students
living in the residence halls.
Coeducational Floors
A coeducational floor is defined as a floor on which
rooms designated for men and women are intermixed. In some cases, men
and women share a common restroom lavatory area with private toilet and
shower stalls.
