The Alex Strait Memorial Travel Fund was established by Terry and Marlyse Strait in memory of their son, Alex Strait, a member of the Class of 2005. Alex was a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major who valued his off-campus experiences. The family wishes to support off-campus experiences that provide students with a unique view of the world and with hands-on experiences that contribute to their future success in science.
The Alex Strait Memorial Fund provides support for students in Cornell Biology and Biochemistry/Molecular Biology courses for travel expenses associated with off-campus opportunities. Awards, up to $500, will be based on the cost of the trip, the student’s academic standing, transcripts, and a statement of purpose in the form of a letter addressed to the Strait family. Students participating in off-campus internships sponsored by the Berry Center, Dimensions or Cornell Fellows program or have received a Class of ’55 award are not eligible. Students who have received previous funding from the Alex Strait Memorial Travel Fund are not eligible to re-apply.
Questions about the Alex Strait Memorial Travel Fund and applications for funding should be addressed to Professor Jeff Cardon in the Biology Department.
