The Cornell College Department of Mathematics and Statistics values the experiences that students have with mathematics and statistics outside of the formal classroom.  In order to encourage our students to find new and interesting ways to engage with our disciplines, we have incorporated a requirement that all majors accumulate 30 mathematics/statistics culture points over the course of their career at Cornell.  We expect that students will likely find the beginnings of their capstone project through participating in some of these activities.  Note that these points can be accumulated even before declaring the major and there are many different kinds of activities that can be used to earn them.  The table below is a complete list of how points can be earned:
