Whether traveling to England, northern Minnesota, or Chicago's Newberry Library, Cornell English classes take full advantage of One Course At A Time's flexibility.

Curriculum, Internships, & Off-Campus Study

Majors complete surveys of English and American literature, deepen their understanding of traditionally organized literary periods with topics-based courses, and are encouraged to complete courses in subjects of pressing contemporary interest—such as critical theory, creative writing, postcolonial literature, and film studies. Senior Seminar, with its emphasis on research and life after the English major, provides a capstone experience.

We also welcome non-majors, and the vast majority of our courses require only the completion of ENG 111 or another approved writing course to enroll.

Internships

Students can earn course credit while pursuing internships for a block or longer, and we consider internships to be an important part of our degree program. They allow students to clarify goals, make connections, and perform meaningful work in a variety of fields.  Read profiles and learn more

Off-campus Study

We extend our classroom beyond campus on a regular basis.  Whether exploring the art and history of England, nature writing in northern Minnesota, or the literary treasures of Chicago's Newberry Library, students' imaginations are opened to new worlds of insight and possibility.  Read more
