Today we had a super tour of the House of Parliament. Some of us thought that a super tour would be a fast pace quick tour of Parliament. We were wrong. Super tour means an in depth extra long tour. Honestly, I wasn't really looking forward to the tour as we walked there. It all worked out though because the tour was not only informative but fun.. The House of Parliament is where the people similar to our congress people meet to discuss, amend, and make laws. It's divided into two parts. One side is the House of Commons and the other is the House of Lords. They are separated and marked by colors. The Commons is decorated in green and the House of Lords is in red and blue. There are around 7,000 people that work in the House of Parliament. The monarch opens parliament. She does this once a year. When parliament is open all the Lords or congress people meet and discuss all the topics that are up for discussion. They must make decisions on each topic before they can leave. The meetings start at eight in the morning and can last until the wee hours of the next morning. Unlike our congress people the Lords in the House of Parliament do not get paid. They do the job for the title. The Prime Minister is a bit like their acting president. He or she must be present at the meeting of parliament. The current Prime Minister is Tony Blair. Any ordinary citizen can come to the House of Parliament to talk with his or her representative. If the representative is there h/she must come and talk with the constituent. The House of Parliament is also the home the famous clock, Big Ben.
