In November 2009, Cornell College established a chapter of SIFE, an international undergraduate student organization that supports entrepreneurship. Students organize business and community projects on their campuses, and then compete in regional and national competitions.
According to the national organization’s website, SIFE "brings together a diverse network of university students, academic professionals and industry leaders around the shared mission of creating a better, more sustainable world through the positive power of business. By contributing their talents to projects that improve the lives of people worldwide, SIFE participants are demonstrating that individuals with a knowledge and passion for business can be a powerful force for change."
Congratulations to Cornell’s SIFE team for receiving four awards at the Chicago Regional SIFE Competition in April, 2010. The Chicago event was the team's first regional competition. The team received the “Rookie of the Year” award and the “First Runner-Up” award for their outstanding programming and presentation. Karen Mercer, SIFE advisor and Cornell’s vice-president for business affairs, received the Sam M. Walton Free Enterprise Fellowship. Senior Kait Wiszt, president of the SIFE chapter, received the Service Leadership Award.
