University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics

On November 11, 2008, Professor Chris Conrad and his ECB:372 Health Care Financing Mechanisms took a short drive to Iowa City to visit the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics where they met with Dr. Doug Merrill, Julie Williams, Eric Bloom, Paula Woods, Mark Henrichs and Lehia Roberts.

Dr. Merrill earned his medical degree from the University of Kansas and completed his internship and residency training in anesthesiology at Stanford University. At the University of Washington School of Medicine, he earned a certificate in Medical Management and served on the clinical teaching faculty.  He is also an assistant hospital director at UI Hospitals and Clinics and was appointed clinical professor in the Department of Anesthesia in the UI Carver College of Medicine.

Eric Bloom holds a master's in health administration and a master's in business administration from The University of Iowa. He earned an undergraduate degree in psychology at Grinnell College. Bloom was named the Administrator of Surgical Services in 2004.

Paula Woods works in the Operating Room at the Ambulatory Surgery Center.  Mark Henrichs works in the Finance and Accounting Services department at the University Hospitals and Lehia Roberts is an Ambulatory Surgery Center public relations officer.
