Cornell Financial Group Students Attend Kellogg Conference
With Berry Center sponsorship, five students who are members of the Cornell Financial Group attended the 9th Kellogg School of Management Business of Healthcare Conference at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. This annual conference November 1, 2009, and was titled, "Managing at the Forefront of Change."
Students in attendance included Kait Wiszt '10, Ryan Caulfield '09, CJ Brooks '10, Anica Vujanic '10, and Katie Gieszler '10. Students saw keynote speeches by Elizabeth Bartlett-Flury, Director, Clinical Integration at Johns-Hopkins University and by John C. Lechleiter, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Office of Eli Lilly and Company. They also attended two panel discussion on topics of their choice.
Says Gieszler, "The last keynote speaker really inspired me to think about this sector of business differently. During his speech, he touched on the idea that within a few years, an individual will be able to purchase their own human genome. This will allow people to know what types of diseases they may be predisposed to, as well as allow pharmaceutical companies to begin custom making medicines for each patient. I found this subject fascinating. It made me consider different ideas about how this could change the world of healthcare, as well as medicine overall. This conference gave me a new understanding of a different type of business that I had never before considered. I am really interested in the ideas that were presented during this conference and I would like to possibly pursue working in the healthcare industry in my future."
