Amber Fricke Attends Civil Rights.Org Conference

With Berry Center sponsorship, Amber Fricke '09 attended the "Why We Can't Wait: Reversing the Retreat on Civil Rights" conference in Durham, NC on October 19-20, 2007.  This conference is hosted by Civil Riglts.Org, a product of the umbrella group, the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights/Leadership Conference on Civil Rights Education Fund.

Fricke used the conference as part of her independent study project for Professor Rob Sutherland and to provide research for an application as a Truman Scholar.  Says Fricke about the conference, "it substantially helped me to formulate my understanding of public policy governing Civil Rights."  She was also thrilled that she was "able to discuss the issue with law professors from Duke University, the Civil Rights Chair at North Carolina Central University, an attorney from a top D.C. law firm, and a professor from the University of D.C. law school who had worked on the major employment discrimination case, Griggs v. Duck Power Co.  They were able to provide me with a more complete picture of civil rights laws."
