Frequently asked questions about Commencement and Baccalaureate:
Q: Where can I park? And if I want a ride from the parking lot to the ceremony site, what should I do?
A: The parking map online indicates designated parking lots around campus that guests can use. If you would like one of the college golf carts to pick you up from one of the campus parking lots, please call Campus Safety at 319-895-4299 when you are ready to be picked up.
Q: Should seniors attend Baccalaureate?
A: Attendance is not required but is encouraged. The program is personalized by the senior class.
Q: Do students need tickets or is there a limit on the number of guests that can attend Commencement and Baccalaureate?
A: There are no tickets for either event and no limit to the number of guests. For Baccalaureate, King Chapel begins to fill early, arrival by 2:45 p.m. is recommended. For Commencement, guests should arrive and be seated by 9:45 a.m., the ceremony begins promptly at 10:00 a.m.
Q: How long does Baccalaureate and Commencement last?
A: Baccalaureate is typically 70 minutes. The Commencement program is typically two hours.
Q: How do seniors order Commencement announcements?
A: Commencement announcements, cap and gown sales are coordinated through our campus bookstore. Seniors will be invited to Senior Send-Off on Wednesday, March 20th, when a representative from Herff Jones will be on campus to take orders. Orders may be submitted online at http://colleges.herffjones.com/college/cornellcollege/
Q: Are tickets necessary for meals?
A: Seniors who are on a meal plan eat as part of the plan. Each senior will be provided 2 guest meal passes for Sunday lunch at no cost following Commencement. These two passes will be distributed at the diploma table west of College Hall. Tickets for additional guests meals may be purchased in advance at the Thomas Commons Information desk and tickets for additional guests attending Sunday lunch may also be purchased at the library cafe, just off the Ped Mall. Guest ticket prices are as follows: all meals ages 5 and under are free, all meals through breakfast on Sunday for ages 6-12 are $3.50, adult price for breakfast $6.00, dinner $7.90, lunch Saturday $6.75, lunch Sunday following Commencement $10.00 for adults and $4.00 for ages 6-12.
Q. If we did not RSVP in advance for events that involve food, can we still attend?
A: Yes. Tickets will be available to purchase at the Thomas Commons information desk and the library cafe, just off the Ped Mall, the day of the event.
Q. Do I need a reservation to attend the events that involve food?
A: No. The RSVP process/form is designed to just help our dining services staff be prepared for a certain amount of guests, it does not mean you need a reservation, nor does it indicate there will be a specific table reserved for your party.
Q: When are seniors required to be out of the residence halls?
A: Seniors must be out by 6 p.m. on commencement day, Sunday, May 12, 2013. Non-seniors must be out of residence halls by 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2013.
