Areas of Expertise

My research focuses on political parties, Congress, campaigns and elections, and political participation.  My book, The Party's Primary, published with Cambridge University Press, examines the role and influence that parties have in nominations for the U.S. House and Senate. In addition, I am also interested in how the contextual political environment, especially aspects such as race, ethnicity, and immigration, affect political behaviors.
