Cornell College Changes Lives
Make sure her dreams come true
You've already proven that you'd do anything for your child. You've set her up to succeed.
Her days at space camp may be over, but you can still encourage her to stargaze. Her dreams may shine as a singular bright star or like a dotted, vast night sky. Where she applies to college can change her trajectory.
What makes Cornell shine
Cornell College is set on a wooded hilltop in Mount Vernon, Iowa, and offers a classic and beautiful collegiate setting. (Our students call it the Hilltop.) A pedestrian mall links modern facilities with numerous stately buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. You could say our campus reflects our students—eclectic, diverse, and inspiring. Mount Vernon, one of the 10 coolest small towns in America according to Frommer’s, truly becomes home for our students, who hail from 42 states and 17 foreign countries.
At the heart of a Cornell College education are boundless opportunities for experiential learning inside and outside the classroom setting. The One Course At A Time curriculum frees faculty to explore new ways to teach. They can incorporate field work into the class schedule and take entire classes on field trips for a day or an entire block in whatever venues best suit the objectives of the course. Students work with career coaches in the Berry Career Institute to identify full-time internships and research opportunities, then dedicate entire blocks to preparing their paths to their first jobs or graduate school.
One Course At A Time takes a distinctive approach to a liberal arts education by offering students a life-changing immersion experience in a single academic subject for each of eight academic blocks. A common phrase heard around campus is, "I can do anything in 18 days." This approach mirrors real life and grounds students in substantial critical thinking skills that will be useful throughout their lives.
Cornell attracts unique and motivated students who lend their character to the campus community and actively define it. As one student told us recently, “I’ve changed Cornell.” Cornell students represent a diverse, multi-talented, and engaged student body from across the nation and around the world. Yet, after arriving on campus, they share a common rhythm due to the distinct nature of One Course At A Time.
Cornell’s distinctive curriculum provides a solid path to financial independence, professional achievement, and personal fulfillment. Consistently described as a “Best Buy,” Cornell is committed to meeting the financial needs of qualified students. Cornell’s extensive academic opportunities and engaged campus community provide our graduates the tools to enter the workforce or advanced study with confidence. Fast-paced and rapidly changing environments are the norm of today’s work environment and our students leave college ready to take it on having been trained on the block plan. Our grads who want to pursue an even higher degree, easily transition to graduate school work—fifty-five percent of Cornell alumni complete a graduate degree. The value of a Cornell education is lifelong.
