Roman Archaeology

February 22, 2000

Dear Roman Travellers,

It was great to see so many of you at our meeting last night. Just a reminder that you need to pay the remaining $1300 (for a total of $3000) no later than Monday, February 28. I need to pay the final bill on Monday, so I would be most appreciative if you could make the final payment before then so I won't have to call you and remind you. All checks should be made payable to Cornell College, with the memo "account #6509-72374, Italy trip." BAGGAGE LIMITS

On flights to Rome, Delta Airlines allows two checked bags up to 70 lbs. each and up to a total of 62 in. (Length + width + height) and one carry-on bag up to 40 lbs. and up to a total of 45 in. (no larger than 22 in. length, 9 in. width, and 14 in height). Delta has a frame in which bags must fit for carry-ons because each bag must be stored either in the overhead compartment or under the seat. International flights are frequently crowded.

Although Delta allows two checked bags up to 70 lbs., I would recommend no more than one checked bag up to 40 lbs. and one carry-on up to 25 lbs. Believe me, you will not want to carry more than that. The less, the better. As you examine the itinerary, you will notice that we will be staying in 4 hotels, which means that you will have to move your bags each time.

OTHER INFORMATION

Hotels will probably not supply hairdryers or irons. As a rule of thumb, 1) don't bring appliances if you can do without; 2) pack everything in a carry-on bag.

Smoking is probably permitted in hotel rooms. Make sure you are paired up with another smoker for your roommate.

Best wishes,

John Gruber-Miller
