Anchors are a specific spot on a webpage that you mark to be able to quickly jump to from a hyperlink. In this tutorial you will learn how to:

Creating an anchor

To create an anchor, first select the spot on your page where you would like to place the anchor. Next, click the anchor button. This will open a window that looks like this:

Give your anchor a short name that is easy to remember. We will use "anchor" for this demonstration. Once you have named it and clicked the "Update" button, you should see something like this:

Linking to an anchor on the same page

To link to an anchor on the same page, first highlight the text that you would like to be hyperlinked. Next, click the link button. This will open a windows that looks like this:

Enter the name of the anchor you just created into the Anchor field and click the Update button. The text that you selected will now be hyperlinked to your anchored spot on the page.

Linking to an anchor on a different page

To link to an anchor on a different page, first highlight the text that you would like to be hyperlinked. Next, click the link button. This will open a windows that looks like this:

Click the new page button and select the page where the anchor is located. Once that page is confirmed, enter the name of the anchor in the Anchor field and click the Update button. The text that you selected will now be hyperlinked to the anchored spot on the page you selected.

Linking to an anchor from the left-hand navigation bar

To link to an anchor from the left-hand navigation bar, first create an external link in your working directory by going to New->Other Assets->External Link.

Once you have created this, enter the full web address of the page. This will look something like "http://www.cornellcollege.edu/webteam/cms-training/using-anchors.shtml", as seen below

Once you have entered the web address, add a pound sign (#) and the name of the anchor at the end of the address, as seen below:

Your external link will now show up in your left hand navigation and link directly to the anchored spot on your page.
