Discovering a Sense of Place
Historic buildings and modern facilities. A great location, a beautiful campus and a strong sense of community. Cornell is where you'll meet lifelong friends, discover your passions, and make plans for the next 10 years and beyond. It's a place that draws diverse students who want to get involved on campus and in the world. It's a residential campus—a place where students live, learn, and play together. It's located in Mount Vernon, Iowa, which was named one of the 10 coolest small towns in the nation by Budget Travel. It's a place for students who want to learn, lead, and volunteer.
A Residential College
A hallmark of Cornell is the many opportunities to forge personal, long-lasting relationships—in the classroom, at concerts, in the stands, and in the dining and residence halls.
As a first-year, you'll live on a "first-year floor" where you and other incoming students will make lifelong friendships and become part of Cornell's close-knit community. In your second year, you can create a Living & Learning Community by securing a block of rooms on campus and dedicating yourself to supporting a particular interest such as music or community service.
Cornell's beautiful National Historic Register campus is located about 20 minutes from the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids. We're also 4 to 6 hours' drive from Chicago, the Twin Cities, St. Louis, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, and Omaha.
