Rood House (1883)

Rood House is actually three buildings fused together into what has traditionally been a women's dorm. The original house was the home of Col. Henry H. Rood, a local merchant, member of Cornell's Board of Trustees and treasurer of the college. His house was given to the college in 1919 after his death. It was a gift from the class of 1894 (and you thought class gifts were mostly boulders and flower beds) and opened as a women's dorm. In 1936 the former home of Dr. AA Crawford was moved from where Merner Hall now stands and was attached to the east side. When Olin Hall was built in 1955 the Anna Jordan house was moved and tacked on behind the original Rood House.
