Welcome to Cornell's "town square." Here is where the campus community comes together to dine, socialize, buy books, pick up mail, dance, volunteer for student government, DJ for KRNL, write for the Cornellian, and more.
The Orange Carpet is the hub of activity in The Commons. As the name implies, it's bright orange and is the place to find out what going on around campus, as well as a perfect spot for events ranging from concerts to political speeches to Cornell's annual student symposium.
The Commons is more popular than ever thanks to renovations beginning in 2004. The Ratthskellar Grill gained a brighter coffee-shop feel inside and out, along with overstuffed chairs, wireless internet, and Starbucks coffee. And a modern fitness facility with state-of-the-art equpipment, televisions, and A.C. replaced the old game room.
Future renovations will add more space and openness to the building. An addition in the back will allow for a large multi-purpose room, as well as increased class and meeting space. A new addition to the front will give a prominent, expanded location for the bookstore while creating a light-filled, welcoming atmosphere. |
