The Theatre and Dance Department at Cornell College maintains and operates a Hewlett Packard DesignJet 500ps large format inkjet plotter. This photo-realistic printer has a 42-inch wide capacity and can print onto sheets or rolls up to 150 feet in length.
If your organization or department is interested in plotting an image or poster, please keep these guidelines in mind:
- Two types of presentation quality paper are available: Matte and Photo Glossy.
- The Matte quality paper is 42-inches wide and up to 150 feet in length. The Photo Glossy paper is 36-inches wide and up to 100 feet in length.
- Our preferred printing software is Adobe Photoshop. We have had some success with Microsoft Publisher, but for best results we recommend Photoshop.
- Because it is not the mission of the Theatre Department to act as a print shop, we ask for at least one week of lead time before you need the finished poster. We also reserve the right to refuse or delay any printing projects that are brought to us, if our schedules are full. Rush delivery may be available, for an additional charge. We also CANNOT accommodate large print jobs effectively, and therefore limit the number of images/copies to fewer than four.
Printing costs are determined by the size of the printout, the type of paper used, and the time required to print. The base costs are determined by the linear foot, along the length of the poster.
Matte finish paper is $4.00 per foot
Photo Glossy paper is $6.00 per foot
The minimum charge for any project is $20.00, if you provide finished artwork in a Photoshop format.
There is an additional charge of $10.00 if the file format is not Photoshop, or if the plotter operator has to modify the files given to us. (For example, if you provide us with an image and ask to have text added, you will be charged this additional fee. Simple re-sizing of artwork would not incur this fee.) If we are asked to create custom artwork, the additional fee will be negotiated with the customer.
If a poster is requested within two business days of when it is needed, a $10.00 rush service charge may be applied.
Please contact our technical director, Don Schneider, if you have any questions or would like us to print a poster for you.
