Every Cornell College recognized student organization is required to have a faculty or staff advisor that is employed by the institution. Organizations are responsible for identifying a faculty or staff member they believe would be a good fit for their group. If a student organization would like to take on an additional advisor that serves in a consultant capacity, they do not have to be employed by the institution.
Advisors have no required duties defined by the Office of Student Activities or Student Senate beyond approving group financial transactions. It is suggested that each organization create expectations with their advisor through an open conversation. At a very minimum, advisors should be informed enough about the group’s activities to feel comfortable approving group transactions.
Advisors will also be asked to sign the Advisor Agreement on a yearly basis. This agreement, along with other resources for student organization advisors, can be found here.
