Student Leadership Award Descriptions
Organization Program Awards
In each of these categories, there are two awards given - General and Specific. The “General” award recognizes an organization that has maintained a year-long commitment and has engaged in consistent, regular programming related to the award category. The “Specific” award recognizes those groups that have hosted a one-time outstanding program related to the category.
Outstanding Community Building Programming
These awards recognize programming that brings the Cornell community together.
Outstanding Diversity Programming
These awards recognize programming that enhances awareness and appreciation for differences on the Cornell campus.
Outstanding Civic Engagement Programming
These awards recognize organizations that have worked to broaden the perspective and better inform the Cornell Community regarding a specific topic or issue.
Most Innovative Programming
These awards recognize the efforts of organizations to create and develop new and unique programming on campus.
Outstanding Service Programming
These awards recognize exceptional work by organizations in the area of service to the community.
Individual Awards
Nomination: To be considered for these awards, groups or individuals must be nominated by a faculty or staff member or another student. Nomination forms must be submitted for each candidate.
Outstanding Executive Council
Outstanding Advisor
This award recognizes an advisor who has gone above and beyond in providing guidance, support, or assistance to a student organization.
Volunteer of the Year
This award recognizes an individual who has had a positive impact in service to the Cornell and/or local community.
Emerging Leader of the Year
This award is given to a first year student who has displayed exemplary leadership skills and abilities during their short time at Cornell. This is a person who has taken initiative to get involved on campus and is ready to help in whatever capacity is needed.
Unsung Hero/ine
This award recognizes a person who has made significant contributions to his/her organization or the campus community this year, but hasn't necessarily served in an officially recognized leadership capacity. This may also be someone who has gone above & beyond in their leadership positions. This person may be the quiet backbone, the voice of enthusiasm, or have stepped up in critical ways.
