Position: Senior Challenge Coordinator

General Purpose:

The Senior Challenge is a student driven campaign designed to give graduating seniors the opportunity to make a difference in the future of Cornell College. Alumni gifts subsidize students’ cost to attend Cornell. The challenge is a way for seniors to say “thanks” to those alumni and help build a stronger Cornell for future students. Seniors ask other seniors to give a monetary gift over the course of five years to the college’s Annual Fund, or a department or area of their choice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an ambassador for Cornell College.
  • Identify and enlist team captains and publicity committee members.
  • Coordinate with the Director of the Annual Fund to plan, publicize and lead training sessions for committee members.
  • Organize events to promote and engage graduating seniors in the challenge (e.g. kick-off and wrap-up events).
  • Develop and design marketing and communications plan to include training manuals, promotional brochures,Web page, Facebook, and advertisements (on and off campus).
  • Communicate with faculty, staff, committee members, seniors, parents, and the media as needed.
  • Serve as a visible focal point for the Senior Class Challenge campaign.
  • Tabulate and process all data as needed.
  • Lead by example by making your pledge first. There will be an opportunity to do this at the kick off event.
  • Determine incentive and motivation plan for leaders.
  • Approve and endorse letters to seniors before and after the campaign.
  • Assist with coordination and planning of the Senior Dinner with the Alumni Department. Attend the Senior Dinner in May and participate in celebrating the success of the Senior Challenge campaign.
  • Complete a final project report and present to the College Advancement Department.
  • Have fun making a difference for Cornell.

  • Enthusiastic for and knowledge of Cornell College
  • Must be dependable
  • Ability to give, receive, and apply constructive feedback

Compensation:

  • Coordinator position will run from November of 2009 through May 2010
  • $600 stipend.
  • Timeline: Pre-campaign: November – January (once a week touch base meetings) Campaign: Conducted during the duration of Block 6 with the first week being team leader training (Feb 2-6), two weeks for actual solicitations (Feb. 9-20th) and clean-up week.(Feb. 23-27). Post Campaign will entail acknowledgement letters, parents’ solicitation, faculty and staff notification, misc. follow-ups, and the Senior Dinner planning.

Cornell College will provide all support services related to Senior Challenge planning including College Advancement reports, related materials, meeting and activity arrangements, and mail processing.  This position will work under the direction of the Annual Fund Director.
