The use of programming is one way to help develop community within your assigned area. As you plan an activity you're primary goal should be to meet a need that you've either noticed or have been prompted about by your residents. That could be the need for connecting more with other residents or the greater Cornell community. Some residents may desire to work on interpersonal and social skills. It could be a need for additional education or information on a specific topic. The need may be centered around physical or emotional development. Maybe the need is based on a desire for identity development and self-discovery. Or some times needs are just based around responding to situations that occur on/around campus. Once you've identified the needs of your residents you can begin working on what will be the best way to meet those needs.
