Child Development

Group Project

Each group will present a 20 minute presentation of a given topic having to do with an issue facing children today. You will also provide the class with a one-page handout of your presentation. Your group will be graded on content, organization, presentation, and creativity. You will be responsible for ensuring the availability of any audio-visual equipment needed for your presentation.

You will be divided into groups of 3-4 where you will research one of the following areas, examining it from all perspectives. These topics will be the building block for your final papers. Below you will find a list of possible topics. If there is a topic you are interested in that is not listed below see me about using it as a topic.

Possible Topics
a. Premature Infants - Long term physical, cognitive effects, cost
b. Parenting - Discipline styles, types, cross-cultural styles
c. Types of Childcare
d. Peer Friendships - Importance, rejected peers
e. Family Styles - Nuclear, Single, Blended
f. Types of School Experience - Preschool, grade school, home school
g. Moral Development - Who is responsible, when is it happening
h. Cross Cultural Adoption
i. Obesity
j. Bullying

55 points possible - These 55 points includes my grading of you as well as you grading your group members and the presentations in class.

Your oral group presentation will be graded based upon the following criteria:

10 points

Organization of Information

Presentation in an orderly, clear &concise manner.

10 points

Appropriate depth

Coverage of topic, appropriate length of time.

10 points

Presentation style

Eye contact, volume, pace

5 points

Fielding questions

 

5 points

Courtesy to others

Attendance at others presentations, appropriate questions and
comments.

40 Points
