Contestants search out examples of incorrect grammar, punctuation, mechanics,
spelling, or usage in formally published sources.
Errors in grammar and usage are
worth 15 points, and must be supported by a description of the error
and a reference to the rule violated in one of the three approved manuals.
Errors in punctuation and mechanics
are worth 10 points, and must be supported by a description of the error
and a reference to the rule violated in one of the three approved manuals.
Errors in spelling and typography
are worth 5 points. Check suspect spelling in a dictionary. Points will
be deducted for false claims of incorrect spelling.
Point values are doubled for errors found
in this course's web pages, general circulation handouts, or assigned
readings.
No points will be awarded for finding
errors in the Cornellian.
Points are awarded only to the first
contestant identifying any specific error.
Craig Allin is sole judge of all entries,
and you will be notified in writing of the disposition of every entry.
This contest is not supervised by Price-Waterhouse or any other reputable
organization. People who don't like
these rules should get their own contest.
