Major & Minor Requirements

Major Requirements for Philosophy

Nine course credits, including:

  • Introduction to Philosophy (PHI 111)
  • Ethics (202)
  • Logic and Critical Thinking (203) OR
    Symbolic Logic (204)
  • Two courses selected from:
    • Ancient Philosophy (302)
    • Modern Philosophy: Seventeenth Century (304)
    • Modern Philosophy: Eighteenth Century (305)
    • Nineteenth Century Philosophy (306)
  • Four additional courses in Philosophy, at least three of which must be at the 300 level

 Recommended Course Sequence

Several of our courses require sophomore standing. Otherwise, our courses have no prerequisites and students have a great deal of latitude in their course sequence.

Minor Requirements

A minimum of six course credits in Philosophy which include

  • Introduction to Philosophy (PHI 111)
  • Ethics (202)
  • Logic and Critical Thinking (203) OR
    Symbolic Logic (204)
  • One course selected from:
    • Ancient Philosophy (302)
