Internships & Off-Campus Study

Internships, externships, and off-campus studies are valuable to an undergraduate education because they allow for hands-on experience in your area of interest. Having these experiences are critical to making yourself an eligible and competitive candidate in your career field.

Getting ready

  • Take advantage of your summers! This is a great time to get hands-on experience in your fields of interest.
  • Participate in job shadowing or externships over spring break to explore careers.

Internships

  • To be competitive in the job search, practical experiences as an undergraduate matter a lot! The final decision between two job candidates can depend on the candidates’ experiences outside the classroom.
  • Build in a block for an internship before you graduate. Make sure to plan ahead!
  • Complete one or more internships to learn about different areas of interest. Contact Career Services for help in finding an internship, or talk to your academic advisor. The Cornell College Internships webpage is a great place to start.

Pathways Tip:  Build in a block (or two) in your schedule for an internship or off-campus study; PLAN AHEAD!
