"Working at Independent Publishers Group made me want to pursue a career in publishing, so it had a huge impact on my life."

Jessica Jones

Jessica Jones, an English major with a Russian minor, traveled to England in 2005 for a block-long class studying the country's theatre, arts, and architecture. The following spring she spent two blocks on a Cornell Fellowship in Chicago, earning course credit while working at the Independent Publishers Group.

"Working at IPG made me want to pursue a career in publishing, so it had a huge impact on my life," Jones says. "I met some amazing people who really took me under their wing and taught me everything there was to know about the publishing industry and distribution."

During first block of 2006 she was off to Russia with six Cornell students for an exchange program with the University of St. Petersburg.  And the following summer she interned at Meredith Corporation in Des Moines, combining her love of food and writing.

"My plan is to go to graduate school and specialize in food publishing," she says. "One-Course-At-A-Time is what allowed all of this to happen. I’ve been able to explore the world and still graduate in four years."
