International trade expert to lecture at Cornell on U.S., Europe ag policies

MOUNT VERNON — An international trade expert from the University of Birmingham in England will discuss the agricultural policies in the United States and Europe, and their implications for global trade negotiations, in a lecture at Cornell College on Wednesday, Jan. 10, at 11 a.m. in Shaw Lounge of The Commons. Admission is free.

Cillian Ryan will speak on “The European Common Agricultural Policy, U.S. Agricultural Support and the World Trade Talks.”

Ryan is an associate professor of economics and holds the Jean Monnet Chair in European Economics. He leads the European Research Institute and is director of the Birmingham Jean Monnet European Centre of Excellence. An expert on international trade issues, he has published extensively on international trade in financial services, global banking and international financial regulation.

He has held lecturing appointments in Europe, the United States and East Asia. He is a graduate of the University College, Dublin, and holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Western Ontario.
