Cornell music professor Chamberlain receives Kimmel residency

April 30, 2007

MOUNT VERNON — Cornell College associate professor of music Don Chamberlain will be in residency at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska City, Neb., during May.

During his residency, Chamberlain intends to work on an orchestral piece that incorporates many aspects of blues music.

This is the second appointment since Cornell and the center agreed in 2005 to establish residencies of approximately a month for faculty in art, theater, music or creative writing. Hugh Lifson, emeritus professor of art, was an artist-in-residence at the center last fall.

The residencies provide a quiet, dedicated retreat and a like-minded community of practicing artists, composers and writers. The center provides housing and a weekly stipend for the residency.
