Cornell alumnae featured in fiber arts exhibition

Sept. 7, 2007

MOUNT VERNON — “The Personal is Political: Fiber Arts at Cornell,” opening Sept. 16, features textile art by alumnae, articulating and attesting to visions, hopes and fears about the individual’s relationship to the larger community.

The exhibition in the Peter Paul Luce Gallery of McWethy Hall runs through Oct. 21, with a reception for the artists at Cornell’s homecoming, Oct. 13, 3-5 p.m.

Featured will be fiber works by alumnae Rebecca Ringquist (2000), Codi Josephson (1999), Danielle Meghan Majors (1999), Amy Clarke Moore (1991), Rebecca Childers (1987) and Kristin Caskey (1984). Their work exemplifies a deeply expressive range of approaches to personal politics, as well as the transformative power of art. Media on exhibit include beaded embroidery, handmade paper, artist’s books, poetry, sculptural books, embroidered text, altered found materials, mixed media, installation and wearable art.

The Peter Paul Luce Gallery is funded through the generosity of the Henry Luce Foundation Inc. Admission is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 2-4 p.m. Sunday.
