Cornell College has provided culture to eastern Iowans since 1853 and is pleased to continue this tradition with its Music Mondays and major lecture series for 2006-07. All events are open to the general public and community members are warmly welcomed alongside faculty, staff, and students.

Lectures

Sept. 13: Anderson Science Lecture, Dava Sobel, award-winning writer and former New York Times science reporter who authored Longitude: The True Story of a Lone Genius Who Solved the Greatest Scientific Problem of His Time, Galileo's Daughter, and The Planets, 7 p.m., Kimmel Theatre, Youngker Hall.

Oct. 13: Opening of the Center for Economics, Business, and Public Policy, "Low-Wage Work in High-Wage Countries," keynote address by Robert Solow, emeritus professor of economics at MIT, winner of the Nobel Prize in 1987, and one of the major figures of the Neo-Keynesian Synthesis macroeconomics, 11 a.m., King Chapel.

Dec. 13: Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar, "The Nature of Poetic Influence," Rosanna Warren, Emma MacLachlan Metcalf Professor of the Humanities at Boston University, 11 a.m., Hedges Conference Room, The Commons.

Feb. 15: Eric C. Kollman Memorial History Lecture, "Why Are We Scared?: Real and Imagined Dangers in the Cold War and Today," Timothy Naftali, director of the Richard Nixon Presidential Library and Museum, 7 p.m. King Chapel.

March 7: Dimensions Lecture, "The God Gene," Dean Hamer, geneticist at the National Cancer Institute of the National Institutes of Health, and author of The Science of Desire, a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, Living with Our Genes, and The God Gene, 11 a.m., Hedges Conference Room, The Commons.
