The Cornellian Editor-in-Chief

  1. is responsible for every aspect of The Cornellian including:
  2. content and tone
    • recruiting, training, and supervising staff (including full training of a replacement)
    • supervising story & photo assignments; editing & layout
    • evaluation of editors and their sections
    • circulation & advertising · printing/publishing
    • budget and other appropriations
    • overall administration of The Cornellian office
  3. consults with faculty advisor, especially on matters concerning content, evaluation, libel, and freedom of expression.
  4. prepares and oversees The Cornellian budget in consultation with The Cornellian Business Manager.
  5. attends Media Board meetings and gives monthly reports to its members.
  6. represents, at all times, The Cornellian and its interests.
  7. maintains an open relationship with Student Senate and submits budget approved by the Media Board.
  8. directs relations between the Cornellian and other organizations or bodies on campus, including the administration.
  9. adheres to professional journalistic standards and ethics.

Training begins immediately after selection and the editor-in-chief will serve from Block 9 of the current academic year through Block 8 of the following academic year.
