Block 2

Oct. 6, 2011

Present: Elizabeth Brown, Justin Brown, Will Dinneen, Laura Farmer, Jill Hopper, Zarni Htet (most of the meeting), Mike Kragenbrink, Sean McKenna, Michelle Mouton, Nicole Potter, Adam Reed (vice-chair), Dee Ann Rexroat (chair), Carol Stock, Zaw Win, Matt Zhorne

Absent: None (Note: Zaw Win left at noon and Zarni Htet left near the end of the meeting)

Review of last block minutes: Sean McKenna went over some of the inaccuracies regarding budgets for all three organizations.

Media updates:

KRNL: Adam Reed reported that KRNL T-shirts are going around the campus. People are also actually listening to the station. Around 40 Djs signed up and the evenings are pretty booked and advertised on Facebook. KRNL is also requesting to be played in the Ratt. There will also be a Homecoming Open Mic Night on Wednesday at 5:30 pm.

The Cornellian: Elizabeth Brown stated that people are actually reading the paper. Four people from the Cornellian (Tom Kirk, Elizabeth Brown, Chelsea Williamson & Dyonis Miller) would be going to the ACP conference. Tom Kirk and Elizabeth Brown also went to the local Mount Vernon-Lisbon Sun to discuss collaboration between the papers. New stories are going to be shared and more cooperation is expected.

Royal Purple: The first deadline of 38 pages is due Nov. 1 to editor Nicole Potter, and in mid-November to the publisher. Nicole is doing the People Editor tasks because she does not think it is worth paying an additional editor to do it. CLOCS (Capturing Lives of Cornell Students) is ongoing. This block’s theme is “Seeing Purple.” Royal Purple is facing camera issues. The lenses are pretty bad and they would like an upgrade to get decent photos for sports events. Funds for the upgrade may come from the reserve account and to get good deals Matt Zhorne should be contacted. Cost is under $150.

Senate Update: Student senate has pushed to store all data on Google docs. It’s still in the testing stage.

Financial Updates:

Mike Kragenbrink said business managers should regularly check their ledgers with Kay Schirm to work out problems early on. This is a new duty for Kay.

KRNL : Other than the usual honoraria outflows, KRNL gained $316 from the sale of CDs.

The Cornellian: They purchased tickets for the ACP conference. It’s over budget but likely they’ll use fundraising account funds.

Royal Purple: Paid the first checks to staff and waiting to pay to the publisher.Mike Kragenbrink: Business Managers should regularly check their ledgers with Kay Schirm to work out problems early on. This is a new duty for Kay.

Reserve Account Discussion Summary:
There are both advantages and disadvantages to having completely separate and completely consolidated accounts. As Elizabeth Brown mentioned, there is a possibility of having an autonomous account that have doors in between them for loaning to each other. The details of how the reserve account will be executed have been delegated to the subcommittee of Sean McKenna (Appropriation Chair of Student Senate) and the Business Managers, Justin Brown, Zarni Htet and Zaw Win.

ACP Conference:

Six people: Thomas Richard Kirk, Elizabeth Brown, Chelsea Williamson, Dyonis Miller (all from the Cornellian) and Nicole Potter & Tiffany Monreal (from Royal Purple) are going to the ACP conference. They are flying from De Monies and we will stay there a day longer than planned (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) and will get back on Sunday. Only two hotel rooms have been booked instead of three and all the females will be in one room. A team meeting is going to be scheduled and they will meet Tera Kringle to get travelling clearance from the college.
