Internships provide an invaluable opportunity to gain practical work experiences in potential career fields and to assist in preparation for graduate study. We encourage every Cornell student to complete at least one internship prior to graduation from the College. Research has shown that having an internship can increase success in finding a job after graduation as well as admission to graduate school.
Cornell offers a variety of resources to help you get connected with internships in the area and across the country. Follow the links at left to learn about past internships, tips on the internship experience, and what programs are available at the College.
An internship will allow you to:
- Explore possible careers
- Obtain “real world” work experience
- Apply and test theories learned in the classroom
- Receive academic credit and/or make money
- Network with professionals in your interest area
- Be more marketable for professional work or graduate school

My internship at Hanger Prosthetics & Orthotics was an ideal supplement to my Cornell education and strongly reaffirmed my commitment to medicine, and to prosthetics and orthotics in general. Above and beyond going to work full-time, developing technical skills in the lab, and gaining experience working with patients, I got to help people walk every day. It doesn't get much better than that.
