Windows Mobile

For some time now, certain cell phone manufacturers have had the capability to transmit email onto a cell phone.  Many of the first mobile phones that first enabled this technology were hard to support for many Information technology offices.  Recently some of these manufacturers have developed a standard app to make it easy for the user and the support staff.  This software is Windows Mobile.
Windows Mobile devices enable instant synchronization of email, calendar, contacts, and tasks on your Cell Phone.  We have found that windows mobile offers the best service compared to other mobile apps.  This technology works well with our current and future plans for our Server Infrastructure.

Here is a list of phones we have supported with success:
·    Motorola Q
·    Samsung Black Jack I and II

For a complete list of supported phones please reference this website: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/devices/smartphones.mspx

To enable email to synch with your phone, you must have a data plan applied to your Cell phone plan.

The reason why we have not added other phones like the blackberry and other types is due to support considerations and infrastructure compatibility.

For instructions to setup the phone to connect to our email server please follow these instructions:
On the Phone:
1.    Start – Active Sync
2.    Menu – Configure Server
3.    Server address is mail1.cornellcollege.edu
4.    Check – This server requires a and encrypted connection
5.    Type in your username, password and domain (CORNELL-COLLEGE)
6.    Check what you would like to synchronize
7.    Finish

If you have any questions about setting up your email, please contact the Information Technology Help Desk at extension 4357 or submit a Work Order Request and our staff will assist you as soon as possible.
