Associate Vice President For Alumni & college advancement
Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Associate Vice President for Alumni & College Advancement. The Associate Vice President reports directly to the Vice President of Alumni & College Advancement, and is responsible for identifying and pursuing opportunities to strategically integrate and coordinate all efforts within development. In so doing, the Associate Vice President will manage day to day operations of the alumni, development and advancement services and act as a senior advisor to the Vice President for Alumni and College Advancement. This position also oversees the creation and management of systems that foster relationships, encourage engagement and generate philanthropic support.
Cornell is a selective, private, liberal arts institution where students learn on the distinctive One Course At A Time academic calendar. Founded in 1853, Cornell is one of two campuses listed in their entirety on the National Register of Historic Places. Cornell was the first college west of the Mississippi to grant degrees to women. It currently enrolls 1,200 students from 48 states and two dozen countries, and completed a $105.8 million comprehensive campaign in 2010.
Cornell is a member of the Associated Colleges of the Midwest and is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. The campus is located 15 miles from Cedar Rapids and 20 miles from Iowa City on a beautiful, wooded hilltop in Mount Vernon, Iowa, which was selected in 2009 as one of the 10 “Coolest Small Towns” in America.
Qualifications: Bachelors required, advanced degree preferred. Eight plus years professional development experience in higher education, including annual fund and major gifts, an in-depth understanding of prospect systems and process and a familiarity with planned giving and foundation relations. Exceptional background and proven results working with individual donors through all stages of the giving cycle. Managerial skill and experience that demonstrates ability in problem solving, mediation and working effectively with supervisors and employees which has led to successful and measurable development outcomes for a college or university. Experience in and demonstrated commitment to the role of a selective, private liberal arts college.

- Strong organizational leadership skills
- Experience in developing goals, setting priorities and coordinating efforts of various operations within development.
- Familiarity with non-profit fund accounting and reporting for a variety of gift types, methods and sources.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to be used interpersonally and across departments and programs.
- Creative energy and flexibility, strong analytical and organizations skills.
- The ability to respond both reactively and proactively in a dynamic environment.
- The ability to welcome challenge and be a persuasive, tactful, optimistic, and a collaborative team player.
