Maintenance Worker – Grounds and General Maintenance
The candidate will have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) and at least seven years of responsible experience in work on grounds and general building maintenance.
Maintenance of grounds including mowing, landscaping, trash and snow removal. General building maintenance including minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry skills and moving of room furniture to fit the needs of students and faculty. Proficient and safe operation of numerous types of equipment used daily to maintain the campus. This includes gang mowers, front mounted mowers, tractors and all associated attachment’s, forklifts, skid loaders, snow plows, all associated power hand tools including chain saws, weed trimmers, tillers and snow blowers. Able to do minor repair on all types of motorized tools and equipment.
This position requires good interpersonal communication skills and a very high touch approach to service delivery. The candidate will interact with students, facility, and administration on a daily basis where problem solving and attention to campus needs are critical to success. Self-motivated and able to plan and complete task on time and with-out supervision. On-call rotation with other staff throughout the year will be required.
Skills/Qualifications:
Position requires a valid driver’s license and satisfactory background check. Must have the ability to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Strong work ethic. Strong sense of service orientation, with a proven ability to effectively communicate with all constituents. Personal attributes – ability to perform and manage technically complex projects using independent judgment and personal initiative, optimistic, competent, ability to cultivate and maintain informal relationships across the College that are mutually beneficial, and a passion and commitment for the work, culture, and mission of Cornell College.
