Administrative Database Services Specialist

The Cornell College Office of Information Technology has a full time opening for the position of Administrative Database Services Specialist. The Administrative Database Services Specialist is responsible for providing support and training for the College administrative system and associated applications. The administrative system consists of three primary applications, SunGard PowerCampus, Dynamics GP, and CollegeBoard PowerFaids.  These applications access a Microsoft SQL Server backend.  In addition, the administrative system is supplemented by Microsoft Access databases and other in house web tools.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides daily support of administrative system including associated applications, databases, and servers.
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots issues with administrative databases and modules.
  • Assists with administrative system routine maintenance and upgrade processes.
  • Creates and maintains documentation for the administrative databases.
  • Produces reports using MS Access, MS Reporting Services and other reporting tools.
  • Creates standalone databases to meet end user needs.
  • Trains users to use software which accesses administrative databases.
  • Sets up and maintains users, groups, and permissions for the administrative databases and clients.
  • Creates, monitors, and tests database backups.
  • Creates and monitors database automated processes such as MS SQL Server scripts and triggers.
  • Monitors database performance and processes.
  • Works with network team to assure proper database performance and security.
  • Works with the Web Services team to assure proper functionality of web-based interfaces accessing the administrative databases.
  • Assists with development, implementation, and maintenance of MS SharePoint collaboration sites and web parts.
  • Participates in long and short term campus technology planning.
  • Performs 24/7 on-call functions on a rotating basis and maintains a log of services and times.
  • Advises users on software aspects for office and departmental use.
  • Works as part of a department team to develop and maintain software solutions to changing campus needs.

Qualifications: Associate’s degree in an appropriate computer-related field or equivalent technical certifications and experience.  Knowledge in SQL scripting and management as well as the MS Office Suite is required.  Knowledge in the SunGard PowerCampus, MS Dynamics GP, College Board PowerFaids, and MS Reporting Services preferred. One or more years of related technical experience preferred.
